The Poppy lady by Barbara Elizabeth Walsh I chose a book that is perfect Veteran's Day on November 11.

The book has the most beautiful illustrations. You can click here to see the book trailer on youtube.

. The Poppy Lady is a tribute to America's historic Poppy Lady, school teacher from Georgia, Moina Belle Michael who singlehandedly launched a campaign to establish the red poppy as a symbol for Veteran's Day.

This is book is a great way to help young children learn about the sacrifices made by veterans and also to share the simple, powerful story of a school teacher who made such a far reaching contribution to our country.

I use the book as a read aloud during the week of Veteran's Day. It is a rather long book, so I read it over the period of a week. The book really helps my firsties understand what a trying time the war was and why we remember the people who fought for our country's freedom.

The paintings by Layne Johnson depict such realistic and telling facial expressions. It's my favorite feature of the book, it really adds to the read aloud.

There are some fabulous craft ideas out there for using red poppies in the classroom on Veteran's Day.

Don't for get to enter the giveaway and check out the other bloggers below and see what books they are using for the month of November!
